#國際記者會 [On LegCo Disqualification: a Prelude to National Security Law Witch-hunt]
/ The HK-style Election has never been free & fair’ since 2016, when candidates like Edward Leung, Nathan Law, Agnes Chow and me were disqualified one by one from the election.
/ Today, with their sweepingly arbitrary power, Electoral Officers have extended their political vetting also to my friends like Gywneth Ho, Tiffany Yuen, Lester Shum, other pan-democrats. Beyond any doubt, it is the most scandalous election fraud ever in HK history.
/ Before going through Ms CHOI’s witch-hunt decision, I wish to emphasize that no reasonable man would think that this election ban is not politically-driven. Beijing had staged multiple acts to prevent the opposition bloc from taking the majority in LegCo.
/ Beijing could disqualify us, arrest us and threw us into jail, they could even call off the election and create a puppet parliament elsewhere. However, none of these can overturn the strong mandate of 610,000 HKers who had cast their ballots the city's first-ever primaries.
/ Our voice is clear to the world, we stand to defend our freedom and rights that stipulated in the Joint Declaration. Barring me from running the election would not stop our cause for democracy, even though they may soon declare democratic aspirations illegal under the new law.
/ Excuses used to rule my nomination this time are proved invalid and ridiculous. Ms Alice CHOI, the Returning Officer cited obsolete statements by Demosisto and selectively framed them as my personal belief, regardless of the fact that Demosisto was disbanded a month ago.
/ Demosisto was not even promoting self-determination since Jan. The government also said, by engaging in international exchanges and advocacy work, I continue to ‘solicit interference by foreign governments’ in HK’s internal affairs.
/ Needless to say, opposing the National Security Law is framed as not ‘supporting, promoting and embracing’ the Basic Law. Voting against government proposals and bills is considered as paralysing the government.
/ Nonetheless, the decision is far more than depriving my right to political participation. This 18-page decision contains a lot of fabricated allegations that could be used as offences under the National Security Law.
/ Choi cited my recent Facebook post ten days after the NSL was in force, claiming that I have the intention to continue to solicit interference by foreign governments’. To make it clear, it was definitely a misrepresentation because the post was merely a commentary of news.
/ I have to take steps to refute such false allegations, as we all know National Security Law is actually a legal weapon used against dissidents. Two days ago Tony Chung and three other students were arrested on inciting secession for online speeches.
/ The special judges who oversee National Security Law cases are directly appointed by Carrie Lam. From making up evidence, arrest, prosecution and trial, the administration can control almost every procedure the law requires.
/ If the slanderous operation of the government is tolerated and not refuted, I believe I would be given no chance of defence when I’m arrested. Lastly, I wish to thank all voters who entrusted my political belief and generously gave nominations to support my campaign.
/ Our resistance will continue on and we hope the world can stand with us in the upcoming uphill battle! To support our fight for the city’s future, I have opened a new Patreon account to share my thoughts on HK’s future. Please support me: https://www.patreon.com/posts/39911873
